Face Off

Makeup, makeup, makeup.

I was joking the other day with a girl who works at Zoe that I was thinking about applying for a job there are realized I'm so wrong for it for one main reason: I don't wear any, and therefore have no clue about any of it!!

But I am so fascinated by it. I think some people are just good at applying it for themselves and on other people (uhhh Gucci Westman?!) But I just don't have any desire to put on anything but these:

Dior "Diorshow" mascara. I just like it because it smells really good.

Bobbi Brown blush. In VERY bright pink. Apply lightly.

Bobbi Brown simple lip gloss.

Some people wear more than me of course...

And others even MORE...

But I'm pretty low maintenance. I think it could be so fun to get more into makeup though! I watched this video but it seemed to only confuse me more (although I do like the bushy eyebrow shout out!). And I do own some Bare Minerals but I haven't really given it a try.

Do you guys have any tips??
What does your beauty regimen consist of??

Minding the Gap

My good friend Lizy Heard is a Graphic Design major here at Ole Miss and for her thesis exhibition she chose to do a magazine. It's about that period that some of us (myself included) are going through: done with college (for the most part) but not quite grown up just yet. It's called "Mind the Gap"...clever/cute right?! She's got fabulous taste and a great eye for this kind of thing. And I was lucky enough to do a little bit of the writing for the mag!

The photo above was taken for the "College to Career: The View from your Closet" shoot, and here's a sneak peek of the rest of it!! Please go check it out in Meek Hall when the exhibit is up. I'm not sure of the dates right this second, but I'll be sure to post a little reminder when the time comes!!

UPDATE: The exhibit is now UP until April 9th! Please go take a peek!

Dormitory Nostalgia

Ah yes, Martin Hall. I called the lovely brick tower on the left my home when I was a wee 18 year old and I never thought I'd say I miss it.

But I do.

Not just Martin, but all dorms in general. I've lived in a dorm since I was 13 and something about how structured they are is reassuring. I could definitely go without the cinder block walls of the Ole Miss dorms (and their faulty elevators), but I like the idea of having my little space and all the bills taken care of for me already.

Girls at Ole Miss take the idea of dorm living to new heights: some people bring in tons of new furniture, get special made futon covers, and even fancy curtains!! These people go all out.

Not unlike the Ole Miss ladies, this guy Max did wonders with his dorm room. His little dwelling was featured in New York Magazine last year.

I love his use of ties as a sort of preppy decor.

A bar next to the tv....collegiate essential.

A aerial view of his chamber.

And it's no wonder he's so stylish....he interns for Charlotte Moss!  I love how he uses lamps instead of what is probably hideous florescent lighting, and the rug really brings the whole room together. Obsessed!

What did you guys do to add a little spice to your dorm rooms?

Coral Corral

My recent search for the perfect necklace has led me to a lot of coral pieces. I've got an antique coral bracelet that I got for Christmas forever ago and I LOVE it. It seriously makes an outfit. All of the other coral stuff I've found so far is great too! The necklace above is from Doyle and Doyle

Wouldn't you love to sport this dramatic cocktail ring for a summer soiree?? Found on ShopBop.

These earrings from 1st Dibs are killllling me. So pretty and classic!

I was all sorts of enthused about these pieces and I came across this on the Tiffany website about the moral questions involved with coral and the marine environment. I definitely understand the environmental implications and am down with keeping coral preserved. But....I do love to look at these gorgeous pieces!!

What do you guys think??

The Hot Tub Comes to Oxford....Finally!!

Yes, it is probably going to be a totally mindless experience, but I cannot wait. I have been anticipating the release of Hot Tub Time Machine for what feels like a decade and it's finally made its debut in Oxford!!  You may be asking yourself why I would be so interested in such a "stupid" or "cheesy" movie. There are a few reasons:

1) I love John Cusack more than my entire family, combined.

2) I have a sick, twisted obsession with terrible movies (I have watched Material Girlz with Haylie and Hilary Duff multiple times)

3) It's about a HOT TUB TIME MACHINE. Why wouldn't I be excited?!?!

Power Couple #1

The concept of the "Power Couple" is centuries-old: Albert and Victoria, Abraham and Sarah, Elizabeth Taylor and ________, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda, Brad and Angelina are all prime examples.

As an ode to the Power Couple, I want to profile some of my favorite dynamic duos of the present and the past. At the moment, and not surprisingly, I am fascinated by the oh-so-fabulous fashion-blogging pair that is Scott Schuman and Garance Dore

Scott is the strapping man behind my fav website (which I have mentioned countless times!) The Sartorialist. Scott always worked in fashion but was not always into photography, which I think is awesome. He has an amazing eye for clothes and style and truly understands women. Not to mention he's super talented and influential.

Then there's Garance. Not only does she have INSANE personal style, she also blogs about and appreciates those who are doing something different than her. Awesome photographs, even better fashion vids (especially from the runway shows that we all wish we could go to), and other quirky posts make up her blog. And make me jealous. Did I mention she's French!?

There's nothing cooler than a couple who can truly relate to each other on an artistic level while simultaneously dominating their creative field.

More power couples to come in the future!! Until then, check these two out. I'm sure you'll be addicted.

Mississippi..... Missoni?

Flipping through this month's Bazaar (my girl Kate is on the cover), I found the Missoni ad campaign!! It's pics of the whole family in their house, shot by Mr. Juergen Teller. One word: AWESOME. Not only does it inspire my recent desire for a maison makeover, it also makes me want to dress in zig-zag head to toe!

Luckily, for us working girls, they did a collaboration with Converse recently!! These fabulous kicks are about $100 and worth every penny.

I can't wait to get a pair! I imagine wearing them with:

White skinnies (after i hit the gym for a few weeks, haha) and:

An 80s men's cardigan in a bright color like teal. And lots of gold jewelry!

Once I get dressed in my throw-back look, I'll hop on my PJ (private jet, duh) and head to Edinburgh for a week-long stay at Hotel Missoni.

Amazing right? I can't wait. (Some day, it will happen!!)

Until then, I plan on sprucing up my Oxford digs with some bright knit blankets and other cool Missoni-inspired things. Any other ideas fabulous and faithful readers?

For my look: jeans and sweater.

Volvo vs Vespa

Oh Audrey, I blame you and your Roman Holiday. My obsession with getting a Vespa has reached new heights. Maybe it's my recent lusting after a European lifestyle or maybe it's just that I'm sick of the hills of Oxford killing my lungs and calves. Either way, I'm dying to get one. I've always imagined myself on a little green one:

Or yellow!! ( To match my imaginary yellow Kitchen Aid from Williams Sonoma)

But a rainy day such as today begs the question: do I have the stamina to ride on a little scooter when it's pouring down rain? Or sleeting? Or for a long period of time? Like on the Highway?

Not likely. In which case, maybe I'll trade in my dreams of European scooter adventures for my old aspirations of becoming a Volvo owner.

I don't mean some fancy new SUV or a convertible little sports car. I'm talking 1980's or early 90's. I'm talking wagon. I'm talking Diesel. Call me an environmentally ignorant fool, but I don't care.

This one is hanging out in Massachusetts, waiting on me to claim him!! Cute, right? And it costs less than a Vespa. Imagine that.

I guess I just want to take a cue from the boys in Detroit Rock City.

My friend Marly also mentioned there's an abandoned wagon on the side of Highway 6...meant to be? I should think so!!

Shoesy Q

I walk by Neilson's everyday on my way home from work, and last week I spotted these Steve Madden wedges in the window and have been thinking about purchasing them, mainly just because I'm trying to break out of my "flats only" shoe policy. But what do you guys think? I'm worried they're either too tall or just don't suit me. Or both!

I also found some other cool wedges on shopbop. Thoughts?

They're made by 12th Street Cynthia Vincent. I really like the fabric interwoven in the leather and I love a little Mexican poncho color scheme.

And while I was there I found these too:

I know, I know, they're flats! But I like that beading and wouldn't they be great for summer?? Eeeeek, I just can't stay away. I found these on shopbop, but I've seen some similar pairs in Therapy. I might just have to stop by there later.

To find these shoesies on the interweb..... : here, here, and here

Eliza Hussman, Travel Writer Extraordinaire

One of my dearest friends Eliza has been writing for the San Francisco Chronicle's travel section for a while now, and I can't believe I haven't posted one of her articles on here before!

She's a great writer and she gets to go on all sorts of cool trips around California and beyond. Her stories are must-reads for any would-be California traveler.

The photo above is from the on-line version of her St. Patrick's Day post which you can read here.

Enjoy!

PS Happy Birthday Eliza and Olivia! And Happy Belated Birthday Katie!

Where art thou, perfect necklace?

Just because my mother (aka Big Edie) is sooo sweet, I had the opportunity to borrow this fantastic necklace for my reunion this past weekend (center). Unfortunately, she won't let me call it my own, and I don't blame her! It is awesome.

She got it from J. Crew a year or two ago, and I'm sad to say they don't make it anymore. And what is a girl to do??

I found these on the website:

But they really don't satisfy my itch. We have some stuff in the store made by Parkers in the Pass that is all great and makes a statement much like my mom's piece, but it's just not the same. Do you guys know where I could get my hands on something like it?? I'm desperate!!

And I'm Off!

Since I'll be doing some heavy traveling this weekend, I may be disappointing on the blogging front. I wish everyone a happy and safe Spring Break!!

And to my besties....see you tomorrow!! I can't WAIT!
