The Prairie

You may remember this post about Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic B&B, "The Prairie" in Round Top, Texas. Well, when I was there a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking a look around! It is a wonderful place for a quiet getaway: picturesque views, cozy as could be, and of course, decorated to Shabby Chic perfection. There was a wedding taking place that day so I wasn't able to tour any of the guest rooms, but I was able to browse quite a bit. If you're ever in Round Top I highly recommend heading over for a walk around the grounds. And of course, a peek into the store they have on the property! I picked up a few goodies there myself.

I fell in love with this chandelier. I've seen plenty like it, but those tiny pink pleated shades make a fabulous statement.

Round Top

This past weekend I made the trip to Round Top, Texas for an antique extravaganza. Known for the famous Marburger Farm Antique Show (which happens in October), there are smaller shows in June and January and I wanted to scope out the scene before I head back in the fall. If this show was any indication of what it will be like, I really can't wait. There were so many wonderful finds -- piles of majolica pottery, french dough bowls, green glass, an old paper-mache horse, a greek-key stool... I could go on. We also stopped by The Prairie -- Rachel Ashwell's B&B, which you may remember from this post. I really fell in love! More on that tomorrow.

Wisteria Antiques

I've been lucky enough to be at the beach with my family the last few days, and I am even luckier to have a mom who understands my antique-hoarding needs!

She treated me and brought me to my favorite antique store EVER: Wisteria Antiques in Santa Cruz.

It's all very French and all very gorgeous, and of course I could wander around for hours! It's set up like a house, with each room packed with goodies.

There's a kitchen area...

And a dining room/fireplace nook.

Then of course, la boudoir.

And everywhere you turn there's something fabulous to look at.

In one of my bedrooms I thought I had found my favorite thing:

It's a coffee table. Aren't you dying?? Wait, it gets better.

Here is its mother. I was losing it!! I need to have a little country cottage just for the purposes of housing this chaise.

In the end I made off with some Claus Porto soap, which is absolutely fabulous! Check it out, y'all.

Headboard Help!

How cool is this headboard?! My neighbors are gutting their house and had just left it on the side of the road, totally neglected and forgotten. Of course, the classic bamboo is a bit Golden Girls for my taste, but that's why I'm in desperate need of advice!

I had originally thought about painting it high-gloss white, or maybe a turquoise like this.

And then get some contrasting sheets like this:
